    Questions

Do I need an API key?
No. On lz-study-buddy.pages.dev the AI is hosted for you, with a fair-use limit of 6 sets a minute and 40 a day. If the hosted AI isn't available, you can add your own Anthropic key in Settings. The example set works fully without any AI.
    Where do my notes go?
To make a set, your notes are sent to Anthropic's Claude API, either through Study Buddy's server or straight from your browser when you use your own key. Nothing is kept on a server. Your saved sets, scores and flashcard schedules stay in this browser.
How does the flashcard schedule work?
It's a lighter version of SM-2, the algorithm behind Anki. Again shows the card later today. Good brings a new card back tomorrow, then in three days, then at a growing interval. Hard and Easy shorten or stretch the gap, and each card's ease adjusts to how you rate it.
    Can it read scanned PDFs?
Only PDFs with selectable text. The text is extracted in your browser with pdf.js, and Study Buddy shows the page and character count so you can check it worked. For a scan, run it through OCR first or paste the text in.
How do I get my cards into Anki?
In the library, choose Export, then Anki deck. In Anki, use File, Import and pick the .txt file. The file tells Anki the separator, the deck name and that fields are HTML, and maths uses Anki's built-in MathJax.
What happens to my own API key?
It's saved only in this browser's local storage and sent only to api.anthropic.com. Press Forget key in Settings to remove it.
